Awards/Trophies

TROPHIES:

To be eligible for a trophy, athletes must have attended three-quarters of the total weeks of the season and must also have attended two weeks after the Christmas break. The championships are decided in each age group with the first place being the competitor with the highest aggregate number of points. There being six placings in each age group, three medals and three ribbons. Each competitor being allowed only six events per week except Under 13 to Under 15 age groups, who have seven events each week.

All Tiny Tots and under 6 athletes, plus U7-15 athletes who have participated at Zone carnival or higher will receive a trophy (assuming above attendance criteria is met).

A “Most Improved” award is available for each age group, based upon improvement points as determined by the computer recording system. Centre Championship medal winners are ineligible for this award. Under 6 athletes are eligible for a special award known as the “Scullion Award”.

There are two “Perpetual Trophies” for the best all round athletes, one for athletes in the U7-11 age groups and another for the U12-15 age groups. The criteria for these awards includes participation on Saturday mornings and at other carnivals such as Grudge Cup, Foundation Day, etc., participation in the majority of events available to the athlete, individual achievement (good all rounder - blue colour patches), sportsmanship displayed on and off the field and records.

A number of other trophies are available for individual events such as Sprints (lane events), Distance (pack starts), Hurdles, Throws and Jumps. These will be judged on performances over the season at local Centre level, and in some cases Regional and State level. Details on how to qualify for these awards will be published and made available early in the season.

A trophy is also awarded for the “Single Most Outstanding Performance”. Consideration for this award includes Little Athletics National/State performance, Relay performance and National and State performance outside LA’s (seniors & school).

Under 15 athletes who have been with the Centre for a period of 5 consecutive years are awarded a plaque by the Centre. Those who continue from U7 to U15 receive an “Athlete Service Award” from the Little Athletics Association of NSW.

MERIT AWARDS:

The aim of these awards is to encourage improvement at every level and to reward regular attendance. Merit awards are given out after every four weeks of competition. There are three types given; track, field and an encouragement award per age group. The method of selecting awards being that all athletes receive one point for each event they have entered in and an additional two points for improving their time or distance. These awards are presented before competition on the appropriate Saturday morning. As there are 20 age groups to present the awards to, we ask that everyone arrives on time on Merit Award mornings and helps to ensure their children are present and are ready to collect any award they may receive. Please applaud all award winners.
